A hobby that changed my life. A passion I now share with the world.
Chlorisa grew from years spent exploring aquariums, plants, and the small ecosystems that make nature so fascinating. Today, we bring that passion into thoughtfully designed aquascapes, terrariums, and carefully chosen essentials — helping you bring a little more nature into your own space.
Welcome.
From a personal passion to a place where nature comes alive.
2008 — Where it started
It started with plants, fish, and a lot of mistakes.
My first tank was simple. I kept plants, added fish, tried things, watched them fail, and started again. I didn't know much back then — I just knew I wanted to understand how these little ecosystems worked.
2013 — Learning the hard way
Plants melted. Fish struggled. Setups failed. I kept experimenting, observing, and trying again.
Without always having someone to ask, I learned through experience. Gradually, the hobby became something I wanted not just to enjoy, but to truly understand.
2020 — Sharing the hobby
Fifty ponds, countless experiments, and a growing community.
During lockdown, I went deeper into the hobby — keeping more plants, more fish, and building dozens of setups and ponds. I started sharing the journey online, and what began as a hobby page grew into a community of 56,000+ hobbyists.
Today — Chlorisa
Years of experience, now in one place.
People kept asking the same questions: Where did you get that? What do you use? How do you keep it alive? Chlorisa is my answer — a place built from years in the hobby, bringing together aquarium, aquascaping, terrarium and vivarium essentials that I'd be comfortable recommending to another hobbyist.
What I keep, and what I send
Where it startedThis is where it really began. I spent years building ponds in the open air, trying to make them look like nothing had been built at all. Waiting for one to find its own balance — and sitting out the months when it wouldn't — taught me patience long before it taught me anything about plants.
What I growHealthy plants don't happen by chance. I learned that slowly, and mostly by killing things. Everything we send is grown on in our own tanks first, because a plant that arrives already established is the difference between a hobby that sticks and one that quietly ends after a month.
The small worldI got curious about what happens on a forest floor and never really got over it. Lift a corner of moss and there is an entire crew down there — springtails, isopods, things you need to lean in to see — quietly keeping the whole place clean. A jar that looks after itself still feels like a small miracle to me.
After the orderIt doesn't end when you check out. Every box is packed the way I'd pack one for a friend in the hobby, and if something arrives unhappy — or sulks a week later — write to me. I would far rather help you bring a tank back than sell you a replacement for it.
None of this was a plan. It started with one tank and a lot of plants I couldn’t keep alive, and it kept going because I couldn’t leave it alone. Then a lot of you decided to trust a hobbyist with your first plants. Thank you for that. Genuinely.
Send me a photo when it fills in. That is still the best part of this.
